Author Choy uses her three main characters, Sek-Lung, Jook-Liang, and Jung-Sum, to give their own description of Chinatown, colliding with the other siblings point of view and forcing the reader to look at both view points, and hen combining them. Each character gives their own take, as in stories and experiences, and make it known how each individual character would like to create their own identities in the midst of World War 2
